How I Plan to Get in Shape and Lose Weight

Mostly By Making Two Big Lifestyle Goals

These are goals I hope to reach and then maintain, until I’m in my senior years. At that point, I’m going to live on Cel-Ray soda, brownies, and green onion pancakes until my body gives out.

1.) Increase my level of exercise until I’m exercising regularly, at least 4 days a week, for at least 30 minutes each session.

2.) Increase my fruit and veggie intake until I’m eating 3 servings of each, every day.

I want to reach these two by October 2010, giving myself a full year. It’s slow, sure, but that’s the whole idea behind moderation. The idea, see, is that once I reach the goal, I’ll have come upon it so gradually that the change will be permanent.

How much weight is there to lose?

According to Ye Olde Hande BMI Charte, I could stand to lose around 75 pounds, but that seems an incredible amount to me. At 5’9″, I am not a small person. I’ve given birth to two children, and I’m otherwise fairly healthy, which means that I don’t really see the validity in anyone telling me I need to weigh as much as I did in the 9th grade. If we’re going to name a number; I’d like to lose about 50 pounds.

I’m more concerned about my shape than a number on the scale…

While some people fret about their BMI, I fret more about my shape. BMI, SCHMEE-AM-I, my real worry is that my copious amount of abdominal fat is going to wrap itself around my heart and squeeze someday. So while I say I want to lose “about 50 pounds”, what I’m really saying is, “however much it takes to get my waist significantly smaller”.
