Morningstar Farms has yummy sausage

FEAR IT NOT! (Unless you're vegan)

I’m not a sausage fan in general. Even before I stopped eating meat I avoided any meat that you could put quotation marks around – as in, sausage contains “meat”, and by “meat” we really mean: entrails. However, Greg just made some Morningstar Farms Veggie Sausage Patties, and while I usually think fake meat is terrifying, these little sausage patties are actually quite delicious.

Be aware that these aren’t vegan! I just checked the ingredients, and they have allergy warnings for eggs and milk. This would be a good transition item for vegetarians who miss breakfast sausage, but vegans will want to take a pass.

Ivana asks what veggies I like

vegetablesMy friend Ivana asked in a comment that I haven’t answered yet:

Hollie, I have a question for you: What vegetables do you like? If this list doesn’t seem long enough, another question: What vegetables will you eat?

I’ve been putting this off, because it’s so embarrassing to answer! Here’s my very short list:

  1. Green beans
  2. Sweet potatoes
  3. Peas
  4. Romaine lettuce
  5. Kale (only in smoothies or as chips – too bitter any other way)
  6. Celery (in soups, can’t handle it raw yet)
  7. Carrots (see #6)
  8. Pea pods (Greg makes these in stir-fry)

There it is. There you go. Where did that rock go again? I need to go hide under it.

This apple a day isn’t keeping any doctors away (or dentists)

omgappleIt’s called The Giant Halloween Candy Apple, and you can buy it at Williams-Sonoma online. I promise if someone buys this for me, I will eat it, and then if I’m still alive, I’ll write about it. Did you guys know that caramel apples are my favorite treat? And knowing is half the shopping angst.

The other half is sticker shock. They cost $22.95 (yes, that’s for one), and the box weighs 2-2.75 pounds, apparently, so while they don’t look that big in the picture, this is enough sugar to make most average adults go into a minor coma.

Mmmmmm, coma. Delicious, delicious coma.

Just added – Index of recipes!

I just created a new page:

http://www.grassdirtcorn.com/recipes/

You can access it from the new tab at the top of the blog that says, “Index of Recipes”.

I’m not done adding things from the blog yet, but what’s clear already is that I’m not posting nearly enough recipes! I write a lot about food, but very little about cooking. Let’s see if I can shift that a little, shall we? I’d initially hoped to have a whole slew of recipes in my blog not just for you guys, but for me, so that I could basically fill out my own cookbook. Time to get crackin’! Er, cookin’!

Basil Update

Because I know everyone is on SEAT’S EDGE……..

I’m dehydrating it!

I don’t think I have time tomorrow to get to Costco and back for Katje’s basil olive oil idea, and I’m going to be busy making some food for Mom’s BBQ, so I decided to just stick it all in the dehydrator and end up with the most delicious fresh/dried basil EVAR. And you know I’m serious when I use internet spelling. SRSLY.
