April 2009

So it turns out I’m not 16 anymore! I know, right? I’m shocked too!

April 30, 2009 by hollie Exercise and Fitness

Thanks for the comments, you guys!
I wanted to clarify that:
Exercising itself doesn’t make me anxious – it’s that tightness and wired-ness and the way my heart rate doesn’t drop back to normal that is anxiety-producing.
So on that note, I can do aerobics pretty well and not find the increase in heart rate disturbing. It’s after [...]

Why does exercise cause anxiety?

April 30, 2009 by hollie Exercise and Fitness

As I’ve mentioned before, I have a pretty extreme problem with anxiety and panic. I was diagnosed with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and Panic Disorder a few years ago. One of the biggest problems I’ve had in the last few years is exercise. Frequently, when I do any sort of exercise, but especially weight-lifting or [...]

All this healthy juice is making me feel weird

April 30, 2009 by hollie Deep and Meaningful Commentary

I just got done drinking about 20 ounces of Green Lemonade (a whole head of romaine, kale, a lemon, and two apples). I feel…….weird. It was tasty and all, but now it’s like those super hero movies where the guy gets bit by the spider, or maybe he drinks something radioactive, and the weirdness SPREADS [...]

The Breville Juice Fountain: changing my life since, well, yesterday.

April 29, 2009 by hollie Deep and Meaningful Commentary

Meet my new baby. I have a Champion juicer, but it doesn’t juice greens, and ever since I read Natalia Rose’s book, The Raw Food Detox Diet: The Five-Step Plan for Vibrant Health and Maximum Weight Loss, I’ve wanted a juicer that can juice greens effectively. So I’m selling the Champion, and the Breville has [...]

Finger-slicing solutions

April 26, 2009 by hollie Deep and Meaningful Commentary

While organizing the kitchen yesterday it became clear I needed a solution to my spices. I ended up finding this one, which I think I’ll set up (or make Jason install for me, muah!) next month.
While looking at DIY spice rack ideas, I also found this, called, “Knife Storage Solutions“:

What kills me is how the [...]

Mindfulness, organizing, and eating

April 26, 2009 by hollie Deep and Meaningful Commentary

Last week I was talking to someone who asked me why I was so overwhelmed all the time. I went into a long monologue WITH HAND GESTURES, about having too much stuff, about a house overflowing, about feeling like I couldn’t keep anything simplified or ordered because there was just so much house to take [...]

Fabulous Ideas Friday #1: the motor home bus

April 24, 2009 by hollie Deep and Meaningful Commentary

I see this bus for sale every time I drive down the main road leading out to our end of town. Every time I see it, I want to buy it and fix it up. I think we could pull out most of the seats, add some bunks and a little kitchen, transition it to [...]

Kids love Cthulhu dogs!

April 24, 2009 by hollie Kids

My friend Sonja sent me a link this morning to a picture of these hot dogs, which were stuck with dry spaghetti when cold, and then boiled to create these completely awesome Cthulhu-squid-spaghetti monster dogs.
You can find the original post on Livejournal, where the guy who posted the photo says:
…..we tentatively call “hot dogs strikes back”. [...]

April 22, 2009 by hollie Questions for the Audience

I started writing it out, and then I realized that I should see if the author had a website I could link to, as well as linking to the book. Turns out she does! The recipe is from Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker: 200 Recipes for Healthy and Hearty One-Pot Meals That Are Ready [...]
