Thoughts on powerlessness and OA

March 29, 2009 by hollie Weight Loss

These aren’t super well-formed thoughts, so feel free to discuss or challenge my thinking. I’m not rooted to a set of beliefs about this.
In the Overeaters Anonymous literature I’m reading, they talk a lot about being “powerless over food”. It’s basically the entire first step, to admit this to yourself and mean it. I’ve now [...]

#1 REASON YOU SHOULD HAVE A COMPOSTER

March 27, 2009 by hollie Deep and Meaningful Commentary

So you can chuck a dozen eggs into it, from a distance of about twenty feet.
Also chucked:
- a dozen dying cucumbers
- 2 bags of dead carrots (OMG THESE ARE SO FUN! They’re like throwing knives! Only ORANGE!)
- 2 celeries (what is the plural of celery bunches?)
- a jar of expired capers (these don’t fly well, [...]

OA update: Day 3

March 27, 2009 by hollie Weight Loss

This is the third day I’ve been sticking to my OA “food plan”, which at the moment is mostly two things:

Not eating trigger foods (foods that just make me incapable of stopping eating and give me horrible cravings, like cookies, pastries, candy, and most other sugar).
Stopping eating when I’m full, and making an effort to [...]

So I went to my first OA meeting last night…..

March 25, 2009 by hollie Weight Loss

Not first ever, obviously, but first in the last decade. Again – I want to make a note of the importance of anonymity, so I won’t be talking about anyone else but myself, which might make describing this whole process a little strange, but that’s okay.

I’m so healthy I want to barf

March 6, 2009 by hollie Deep and Meaningful Commentary

Why can’t they make a multi-vitamin that doesn’t make me sick to my stomach? Sometimes I steal one of the kids’ Flintstone vitamins just because I don’t feel like dealing with the Post-Vitamin Hurl Effect.

Update and questions about the LifeSpan Fitness R3 Recumbent Bike

March 5, 2009 by hollie Deep and Meaningful Commentary

A commenter, NeedToExercise, recently asked some great questions at the end of my post, “So about that stationary bike purchase“, about the LifeSpan Fitness R3 Recumbent Bike. They also asked about owning a treadmill. I thought these questions and answers might be of interest to other readers, so I’m putting them in a post.
I [...]

An apology, and an explanation for my recent absence

March 3, 2009 by hollie Deep and Meaningful Commentary

First of all, I want to apologize for being gone these last two weeks, especially to the folks who posted comments that were waiting in the queue to be approved. I wasn’t ignoring you, I actually never saw those in email, which means another blogging snafu to be worked out. This is important, and I’ll [...]
